OBITUARY: Dale Davis Grim
October 26, 1913 - January 30, 2007
SALEM - Dale Davis Grim was born on October 26, 1913 to Earl and Vera Grim in Ulysses, Nebraska. He was the first of six children and attended elementary school in Lusk, Wyoming.
After the eighth grade, Dale began working full-time with his father in the coal mines. At age 16 the entire family packed everything they owned into their Model T truck, and headed for a promising future in Oregon. Upon arrival they found strawberries to be picked and Dale found the love of his life, Virginia. Dale and Virginia eloped on August 23, 1933 and together raised four children.
Life centered around farming the Three Chimneys Ranch in the hills of South Salem. Dale partnered with his father-in-law for many years and later he and Virginia managed the farm growing cherries, fescue, wheat, and raising purebred Suffolk sheep. Dale was self-taught, and a lifelong learner. He shared his knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, car and machinery repair, and farming techniques with everyone. He enjoyed problem-solving and could fix almost anything with quiet determination.
Dale was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia in 1995; son, Richard Dale Grim in 2000; by his parents; 4 brothers; and 1 sister. He is survived by his daughters, Joanne Heenan of Salem and Ellane Jepson of Grandview, Wash.; son, Ralph Grim of Salem; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Meadow Creek Village Assisted Living for their compassion and family approach to care giving. Dale appreciated all of you!
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, February 2, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m., at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. Following the funeral a private graveside service will take place at Cloverdale Cemetery. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
