OBITUARY:
Mithra Jones, an Oregon pioneer, died at the home of his daughter Mrs. W. H. Brown near Parkersville Saturday August 23, 1919.
He was born Jan. 27, 1831, and crossed the plains in 1850 with four other young men with ox team, traveling part of the way alone. Traveled a part of the way with Major Ball Company, but leaving them as a large company came too slow, he arrived at the Dalles in September.
Most of his younger days were spent in the mines of Oregon and California, settling in Marion County, and spending the rest of his days in Linn and Marion Counties.
Came to live with his daughter Mrs. W. B. Brown, about fifteen years ago.
He was married to Julia A. Hubbard Nov. 13, 1953. Seven children were born to this union: Mrs. Thurston Grimm, Irrigon, Oregon; Mrs. W.B. Brown Gervais, Ore; Mrs. Minnie Graham, Salem, Ore; Mrs. Larry Cormier, St. Maries, Idaho; Mrs. W.J. Bayens, Los Angeles, Cal. C.L. Jones died October 5, 1893; Emma died in infancy; his wife Julia A. Jones died March 27, 1897.
The funeral services and burial took place at the Pioneer church Monday morning Aug. 25.
