DROWNED
Burke Jones, of Brooks, Lost His Life Sunday - Funeral Held Today.
Burke Jones, aged about 17 years, the fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Jones, of Brooks, who lost his life in the Willamette river Sunday afternoon, was buried at Brooks today, funeral services being held at that place at 9 o'clock this morning.
Sunday afternoon the deceased accompanied by Bruce and Will Jones, two of his brothers, Harry Barendrick and Howard Ramp, went to the Willamette river for the purpose of bathing at a  point a few miles north of Salem known as Somon's Landing.
The sad acciddent happened about 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The unfortunate young man, who drowned, and Harry Barendricks, neither of whom were experienced swimmers, were enjoying a ride on a log, when the same reached the main current of the river and started rapidly down the stream. The boys leaped into the water and attempted to swim ashore but the distance was too great. Noticing their comanions to be in need of assistance, Will Jones, a brother of the dead boy, and a companion, leaped into the river and made for their associates that they might render some assistance, but Burke Jones samk before they could reach him. Barendricks was resued by Will Jones and taken ashore.
The body was not recovered until nearly noon Monday and the funeral occurred as above indicated.
