HARRIS - At the family home in Brooks, Ores., Thursday, Jan. 6, 1910, Mrs. E. J. Harris, at the age of 73 years.
The passing away of Mrs. Harris takes from the community another one of Oregon's old pioneers and respected citizens. The deceased was born in Arkansas and came across the plains to California in 1848. After residing inn California with her husband, Mr. E. J. [William] Harris, who survives her at the ripe of [old] age 83 years, the family moved to Oregon and settled in Linn county, afterward locating in Brooks, where they have resided for the past thirty years.
Besides a husband, Mrs. Harris leaves six children to mourn her death. They are Geo. W., of Salem, Frank of Washington, Mrs. A. L. Beckner and Mrs. J. E. Allison of Salem, Mrs. D. H. Craven of Portland, and Mrs. F. W. Brown of Council, Idaho.
Mrs. Harris joined the Methodist church at the age of 16 years and up to the time of her death she has been a devoted member. An equally divided love for others and a kind nature won her many friends during her long and useful life, and her death means the loss of a kind friend and a loving mother and wife.
The funeral will be held in Brooks tomorrow (Friday) at 1:30 p.m. Reb. [sic - Rev.] T. L. Jones, of Brownsville, officiating. Interment will be in the Jones' cemetery near Brooks.
