OBITUARY:

Man Jailed in Slaying
SALEM, Dec. 31 (Speical) - George Elmer (Bud) Harris, 33, for many years a resident of the Brooks vicinity, was in Marion county jail here Sunday accused of the slaying of Charles Batchelor, 36. District Attourney Miller Hayden said a formal charge would be filed against Harris Monday.
Harris told the state police that he returned unexpectedly from a hunting trip at 3:30 A. M. Sunday and upon entering his home at Brooks found Batchelor in bed with his wife. Ordered to leave the house, Harris said Batchelor struck him on the nose and a first [fist] fight followed. Harris said he retaliated by striking Batchelor's side and he died 45 monutes later.
State police said they found evidence of a drinking party when they arrived at the Harris home. Mrs. Harris said she did not know "there was a man in the house" until her husband returned.
Harris denied he had attempted to kill Batchelor.
