OBITUARY:
INDEPENDENCE -- Marvin C. “Jake” Lander, 77, of 141 S. 17th St., died Friday in the Cedarwood care center after a lengthy illness.
Born in Brooks, he was a lifetime resident of Independence. He farmed until his retirement in 1974, and was a member of the Independence First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel; son, Robert Melton, Salem; daughters, Carol Hensley, Independence; brothers, Charles, Independence, and Everett, Corvallis; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Farnstrom-Parmenter mortuary. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. in Pioneer Memorial Cemetery, Brooks.
