BIOGRAPHICAL (Source - Hollywood News 27 Aug 1980, pg 6, via Peggy O'Farrell via Tracey Saucy):
Back in 1908 when Mrs. Wallace Jones, with her family moved into the new home with her father, there wasn't much around besides hazel nut bushes.
In 1910 Mrs. Jones married Wallace and they moved into a home on 60th avenue, right off Sandy. His family moved to Oregon near Salem in 1854 (?) from Wales [sic - Indiana]. Mrs. Jones' family began homesteading in Oregon in the 1870's [sic - 1880's].
The streets were full of mud and people had to walk on planks across Sandy until it was paved in 1914 (?). When she was first married they had a nice lawn in front of their home. The only problem was that it was full of snakes!
There wasn't much along Sandy Blvd. in those days. There was once a giant gravel pit where Sandy Crest Terrace now stands. A drug store on 57th was where the family bought all their groceries when they first moved into the area.
Dr. William Ladlow had a practice on 57th where the fire station is now. He brought Mrs. Jones first daughter into the world. She is now 69 years old. She and her sister both attended Rose City Park School.
Mrs. Jones remembers their first winter in Portland. A blizzard suddenly came up. She, her sister and a friend had taken the street car home. Because of heavy snow, it stopped at 27th. They had to walk all the way home to 85th. I don't know how we ever made it through that blizzard," she exclaimed.
Mrs. Jones is now 90 years old and still keeps active. She enjoys living alone in her apartment where she has lived for 24 years."
