OBITUARY: 
MT. ANGEL - Dorothy Ann (Moore) Hamstreet, 82 of Mt. Angel, Ore. died peacefully in her residence on April 26, 2004. Born on March 20, 1922 in Portland, Ore. she survived her parents, John and Gertrude Moore and step-brother, Clyde Moore.
She attended Catholic elementary schools in Woodburn and Salem, graduated from Crane Union High in Crane, Ore. and completed two years at Oregon State University in Corvallis.
On October 20, 1941 she married her husband of 30 years, Charles Marvin Hamstreet, who died in 1971. She lived in Klamath Falls, Newport, Albany, Salem, and Mt. Angel, Ore., and Santa Maria, Calif. She worked most of her life, first as a waitress and sales clerk and later in clerical and administrative functions. While working at Vandenberg Air Force Base she was given a top secret clearance rating by the government. On returning to Newport she was instrumental in the development of the Embarcadero Resort and Marina with her son, Clyde. After her husband’s death she became a real estate broker selling residential real estate in the Mid-Willamette Valley. In 1987 she took an administrative position with Oregon’s State Accident Insurance Fund where she worked until retirement.
She had a sharp mind and enjoyed solving crossword and other puzzles and board games. She was a member of the Salem Sewing Club, did quilting and crochet. She was an avid reader of fiction, biographies, and followed current events and was fond of political debate. She was a passionate advocate for peace and justice and women’s rights. She did volunteer service for her community and was awarded a mayor’s commendation for volunteerism by Salem’s mayor along with other neighborhood service awards.
She was a loyal, hard-working mother who believed in integrity and independence.
She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Obermeyer; her two sons, Clyde and Marvin Hamstreet, all of Portland; six grandchildren, Scott and Brandon Gollaher, Kari Mueller, and Brent, Alexander, and Sophia Hamstreet; three great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Veronica Hamstreet; and son-in-law, Obie Obermeyer.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in her memory to Doctors Without Borders.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Fri., April 30, 2004, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Mt. Angel. Interment at Brooks Pioneer Cemetery. Unger Funeral Chapel, 229 Mill St., Silverton, OR 97381, (503)873-5141, is in charge of arrangements.
