OBITUARY:
SALEM - Paul Abner Woodrum passed away in Salem at the age of 93. He was born on a farm near Hardesty, Oklahoma to Lon Alonzo and Lydia Tryphena (Irons) Woodrum. Paul was raised in Oklahoma. He lost his father at the early age of 9 and his mother at the age of 16. He left the farm heading for California by riding on freight trains and working his way cooking in restaurants. While in California, he worked in irrigation. He later moved to Kansas where he met and married Verda Edith Lamon on May 24, 1941 at the home of her parents. Together they owned and operated two restaurants and a hotel. Paul also worked in the oil fields, a hatchery and drilled water wells. They moved to Oregon in 1951. Paul worked at Lee's hatchery before becoming a builder and contractor, building many houses and apartments in the area. Paul was a member of the Oak Park Community Church of God and a Child of the King. He was a generous, soft spoken man who helped many people through out his life. He was as much a delight to children as they were to him. He enjoyed all of nature, gardening, fishing, and all animals and birds. He is survived by daughters, Trythena (Dick) Bandy of Aumsville and Paula (LeRoy) Miller of Cordell, Okla.; son, Robert (Karma) Woodrum of Salem; sister, Naomi Hillis of Wichita, Kan.; brother, Robert Woodrum of Shattuck, Okla.; 20 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great grandchildren. Services were held at Oak Park Community Church of God on Saturday, December 20. Interment was at Pioneer Cemetery in Brooks. Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
