OBITUARY: DEATH OF MRS. N. J. WADE.
A notable pioneer in Parkersville and Gervais was laid to rest on Monday in the person of Mrs. N. J. Wade. The immense funeral cortege from her late home to the Pioneer cemetery and the number of beautiful floral tributes were but a small token of the esteem in which the deceased was held. “A good neighbor as gone to her reward,” was a common expression in the house of mourning and in the cemetery.
Nancy Jane Webb was born in the state of Indiana on September 17, 1844, and crossed the plains in 1847 with her parents who settled on the Columbia Slough; after living there two years they moved to Oregon City where she first attended school. Two years later her parents moved to what is known as the James Webb donation land claim, where she lived with her parents until her marriage to M.A. Wade in 1860. She then moved to the home in Parkersville where she lived the remainder of her life and where she died.
Mrs. Wade was the mother of seven children, three of whom are living - Mrs. A. R. Siegmund, of Gervais; Frank Wade and Ida Wade, of Parkersville. She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Tabitha Stevens and Mrs. Lucinda Simmons, of Gervais, and Mrs. L. K. Siegmund, of Salem.
For many years the deceased was a member of the Christian church, a faithful Christian and a good wife and mother. We desire to express our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved in this their hour of trial.
