SALEM - Ellen Jane ‘Jenny’ (Lind) Martin, 87, of Turner died Tuesday, August 14, 2007 with family by her side, at Salem Hospital from complications due to a fall.
Ellen was born November 29, 1919 in Forsyth, Montana where she lived until leaving home for the University of Montana at Missoula where she received a degree in Microbiology. She met and married Harold Martin on August 13, 1942. They moved to the Salem area in 1959 where they resided until her passing. She and Harold raised their family here and Ellen worked for the Oregon Department of Agriculture until her retirement in 1985.
She was from a Masonic home and she was a Rainbow girl growing up. As an adult she joined both the Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile. In Eastern Star she held many offices including Worthy Matron which she was first installed into in January of 1978.
Ellen is survived by Harold, her loving husband of 65 years; sons, Phil (Penny), and Andrew (Gayanne); daughter, Pamela (Ray); six grandchildren, Darylyn (Brian), Greg, Elaine (Steve), Scott (Julie), Kelsey, and Alex; and one great-grandchild, Linda.
The Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile will be holding services at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at Pearl Masonic Hall, 5140 Chicago St., Turner with a gathering to follow at the hall. All who knew Ellen are welcome to attend. The family suggests that any memorials go to one of her active causes, the American Cancer Society.
