1850 KY CENSUS - Martha Chalfant, age 2, b. Kentucky, is enumerated with Samuel Chalfant, age 40, occupation tailor, b. Kentucky, and Sarah, age 30, b. Kentucky, along with Mary J., age 8, b. Kentucky and Cornelia, age 4, b. Kentucky. Also enumerated with the family is James Anderson, age 23, b. Kentucky. 
1880 KS CENSUS - Mattie E. Brown, age 32, b. Kentucky, is enumerated with Thos. R., age 39, occupation lumber office clerk, b. Kentucky, along with Alice, age 15, b. Kentucky, Thos. R., age 10, b. Kentucky, Bonnie G., age 6, b. Kentucky, Nellie C., age 4, b. Kansas, and Mattie T., age 1, b. Kansas.

1930 OR CENSUS - Mattie E. Brown, age 82, widowed, married at age 16, b. Kentucky, is enumerated as mother-in-law in the home of James M. Slyter, age 68, married ate age 29, occupation poultry farmer, b. Indiana, and his wife Jennie A., age 64, married at age 25, b. Kentucky.
OBITUARY: 
Mrs. M. Brown Dies At Marion
MARION, Jan. 30.—Mrs. Mattie Chalfant Brown was born in Hardensburg, Breckenridge county, Kentucky, January 28, 1848, departed from this life January 24, 1931, age 82 years, 11 months and 26 days.
Mrs. Brown was married to Thos. R. Brown October 11, 1864, to this union was born 12 children, six of whom are still living, they being Thomas R. and William Brown and Nellie Steir of Louisville, Ky., Bonnie Gallispie of Detroit, Mich., Katherine Peterson of Turner and Alice Slyter of Marion besides these children she leaves 42 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Her husband passed away 27 years ago, since which time she has been making her home with her children. During her widowhood Mrs. Brown made 27 trips between Louisville and the Pacific coast, all of which were made alone.
Mrs. Brown will be remembered for her ever consideration of others welfare and happiness.
