1900 OR CENSUS - J.A. Colby, age 62, occupation farmer, b. Apr 1838 in Michigan, is enumerated with his wife of 28 years, Amanda, mother of 6, b. Nov 1843 in Pennsylvania, along with Mellie, age 32, single, occupation school teacher, b. Apr 1868 in Oregon, Ida B., age 26, single, student, b. Apr 1874 in Oregon, and George, age 24, single, occupation laborer, b. Apr 1876 in Oregon.
OBITUARY: 
James Augustus Colby, at the age of 83 years and 11 months, died at his home, two miles east of Independence, Sunday. He is survived by a son, George, and a daughter, Ida Cobly. Funeral Services were conducted Monday at the home, burial in the family plot.
