OBITUARY:
Died October 19, 2004, in Citrus Heights, CA at the age of 91. Gladys was born November 28, 1912, in Salina, Kansas, to Ernest and Mable [Mabel] Sears. Raised in Salina, she later moved to Salem, Oregon, with her husband, Ralph Mayden, and had two daughters, Lynn and Dianne. Gladys will always be remembered as a loving mother and “Oma” as her grandchildren called her. She was a remarkable career woman who valued her independence and family above all else. Gladys Mayden worked for Bell Telephone - later AT&T - for forty years in a variety of positions but ended her career as a Corporate Trainer and Supervisor of Fraud Investigation in Sacramento, California. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, gardening, caring for animals and spending time with family. She attended Christ Community Church in Citrus Heights, California. She lived independently and was an award-winning safe driver, traveling from Citrus Heights to Salem until she was 90. Gladys Mayden was preceded in death by her brothers, Delbert and Jim; and her daughter, Lynn Ann Bretz. She is survived by her brother, Gerald Sears, of Arizona; her daughter, Dianne Boswell and granddaughter Karen Bretz-Lewis of Oregon; grandsons Troy and Brian Boswell of California; her beloved dog, Buttons, and her prized 2002 Toyota Camry. Services will be planned at a later time. The family requests that remembrances be donated to International Fellowship of Christians and Jews at P.O. Box 37364, Washington, D.C. 20013-7364.
