OBITUARY:
SILVERTON - Jack D. Berger, 54, died Sunday.
He was born in Salem and graduated from North Salem High School in 1956. He attended Oregon State University and served in the Army National Guard. He returned to OSU and was Pacific 8 Wrestling Champion in 1962 and 1963. He graduated from OSU in 1963 and earned a Masters degree from Lewis & Clark College.
He taught at Silverton High School for more than 30 years and was head wrestling coach for 21 years, retiring in 1984. He also was assistant football coach.
He enjoyed water skiing and hunting.
Survivors include his daughter, Julie Hannan of Silverton; son, John of Silverton; mother, Madeleine Berger of Silverton; brother, Jim, of Prineville; and one granddaughter.
Services will begin at 2 PM Friday in the Silverton First Baptist Church. Interment will be in Lewis Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 8 am to 5 PM, today through Thursday and from 8 am to 1 PM Friday in Unger Mortuary.
