BIOGRAPHICAL (From A History of the Silverton Country)
"The Lewis family is of old and distinguished colonial stock. Daniel Lewis was born in North Carolina, January 23, 1807, a son of James Lewis, who was a cousin of Daniel Boone, the Kentucky pathfinder. James Lewis was a son-in-law of John Couch, who fought in the Revolutionary War. Daniel Lewis received his early education in Kentucky, where he removed with his parents in 1810. Learning the stone-mason's trade, he remained in the Blue Grass state until 1840, when he migrated with his family to Platt county, Missouri, where he remained until 1851, when the long and arduous trip across the plains was made. Arriving in the Waldo Hills, the family took a donation land claim of three hundred twenty acres.
In Kentucky, on the 18th of November, 1824, Daniel was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Spurlock, a native of the Old Dominion, where she was born January 9, 1808. They were the parents of 10 children."
