OBITUARY:
SALEM - Ruth Virginia Funrue was born in Silverton, Ore. to Hellick and Emily Funrue, the third of four children. She was baptized and confirmed at Silverton’s Immanuel Lutheran Church. After graduation from Silverton High School in 1937, she completed business college which led to a lifelong career in the secretarial field. In 1942, she married Merle Landon Rasmussen, a Navy seaman, in San Francisco. Returning to Silverton, they raised four children on their farm. Merle and Ruth enjoyed their retirement years in Salem, moving there after selling the farm in 1968. In Salem, Ruth joined Salem Lutheran Brethren Church, now known as Solid Rock Community Church. She departed to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, at age 85 surrounded by people who loved her.
As an active member of her church, Ruth served as a long-time treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. She always brought freshly baked treats to share during coffee fellowship and shared her love of flowers by creating floral arrangements for Sunday church services for over twenty years.
Ruth was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Merle; her parents; and sisters, Eleanor Meland and Florence Taylor.
Survivors include brother, Amos Funrue and sister-in-law, Ardy; daughter, Donna McColly (Ralph) of Silverton; sons, Jim of Bend, Carl (Kris) of Silverton and John (Miriam) of Wilsonville; grandchildren, Lee and Jeff McColly, Scott Mathews, Kaesi Cook, Karmen Cook, Kera Howell, Miranda and Madison Rasmussen; and great-grandchildren, Becky, Jordan, Koby, and Kolton Howell, and Aidan and Emerson Rose Cook.
