OBITUARY:
Death of Mrs. Gibson – Mrs. Anne Gibson passed quietly away at the home of her son, Matthew Gibson, near Victor Point, February 12, 1916, at 8:15 a.m. ‘Grandma’ Gibson, as she was familiarly called, was born in Ireland May 24, 1834, being at the time of her death 81 years, 9 months, and 12 days old. When 20 years of age, Mrs. Gibson left her native country and crossed the Atlantic, coming to Chelsea, Massachusetts, where she remained for two years, returning to her native land to care for a sick and dying mother, whom she laid to rest shortly after her return.
In May 1862, she became the wife of Matthew Gibson, Sr. To this union five children were born, four of whom still survive to mourn her loss. In 1874 her husband crossed the Atlantic, coming to California, where he remained for three years. He came to Oregon in 1877, where he purchased a farm near the present Victor Point. Early in 1878 he sent for his wife and family, who came in the latter part of the same year, arriving at the home prepared for them August 24, 1878. Here the family remained and grew to manhood and womanhood.
On November 23, 1904, the husband and father was taken from the family and laid to rest in the Warren Cemetery. On October 15, 1915, a daughter, Mrs. Mary Kirk, of Portland, met with an accidental death, and was later laid away in the same cemetery.
