OBITUARY:
Was a pioneer – Phillip Bowers, one of the oldest settlers of this part of the Willamette Valley, died at his home near this city on Friday, March 17, 1911, after an illness of many months’ duration.
Mr. Bowers was one of the most widely known and highly respected citizens of Marion County. He was born in Germany November 9, 1830, and came to the United States when he was quite young, locating in the east. In 1852 he crossed the plains and settled in Oregon, which place has been his home since that time. He lived on a farm near this city for some time and then moved into town, where he was engaged in the hotel business for a while. He retired from this line of work and again entered the field as a farmer, at which vocation he was decidedly successful.
Besides the sorrowing wife, he leaves two sons, Frank Bowers of near Gold Hill; and Harry Bowers of this place.
