DEATH CLAIMS GEORGE E. HALL
George E. Hall, who formed one of the first advertising agencies in Portland, died at his home in Silverton Tuesday at the age of 70. Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Ekman Memorial chapel in Silverton.
Mr. Hall moved to Silverton four years ago when he retired as advertising manager of the Abbott, Kerns and Bell printing company in Portland.
He was born in Timaru, New Zealand, August 27, 1880. His father was editor of a local newspaper. The family moved to Portland in 1893.
He attended the old Central grade school and after graduating from that school in 1897 he worked six years in a small manufacturing plant on the east side.
OWN AGENCY ORGANIZED
He later became window trimmer and show card writer for the Tull and Gibbs Furniture company, becoming head of the company's advertising department. He stayed with the company until 1911, when he started his own advertising agency, which was later merged with the Thomas Emory agency, the new firm taking the name of Hall and Emory advertising agency. In 1926 he joined the staff of James, Kerns and Abbot, which later became Abbott, Kerns and Bell.
He was active in the work of Al Kader temple, for a long time being manager of the temple band, as well as being associated with the band of the Royal Rosarians.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Josephine Hall, Silverton; a daughter, Mrs. Frank Eldred, Beaverton; and two sisters, Mrs. C. F. Hastings, Portland, and Mrs. A. Delegh, England. [uncited newspaper clipping]

Silverton – George E. Hall, 69, Silverton, Rt. 3, died at the Silverton Hospital Tuesday morning. He was born in Timau, New Zealand, August 27, 1880, and had lived in this community four years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Josephine Hall, Silverton; daughter, Mrs. Frank Eldred, Beaverton; two sisters, Mrs. C. F. Hastings, Portland, and Mrs. A. deLegh, in England. Funeral services from the memorial chapel of the Ekman Funeral Home at 1 o’clock Thursday, Rev. Chester Hamblin, Salem, officiating and burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Capital Journal 20 Dec 1949 21:8.
