OBITUARY:
After a lingering illness of more than two years, Dolph, aged 18 years, 10 months, and 12 days, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Humphrey of the Waldo Hills, peacefully passed away Friday morning, January 23, 1914. The funeral services were conducted from the family home Sunday, January 25, at 1 o’clock, Rev. Sherwood of Salem officiating. Interment took place in the Warren Cemetery.
A large concourse of sorrowing friends gathered to pay their last respects to one of whose kind and gentle way won for him many friends. His death has cast a gloom over the community in which he lived. He was a boy of great ability and force of character and will be kindly remembered as a young man of bright promises and high aspirations, by both teachers and classmates of the Salem high school.
All efforts were put forth to restore him to health, but he gradually grew weaker. Through all his sickness he never lost hope, but he put his trust in God.
Besides his father and mother he leaves two brothers, Harold and Herbert, and two sisters, Blanche and Bernice, to mourn his untimely death.
Softly and tenderly let us sing,
As earth returns to earth;
The spirit hath risen on joyful wings,
To Him who gave it birth.
