1910 OR CENSUS - James D. Darby, age 59, occupation farmer, b. Missouri, is enumerated with his wife of 31 years, Mary M., mother of 9 children 8 of whom are living at the time of the census, b. Oregon, along with Ethel D., age 29, single, teacher, Ava J., age 23, single, teacher, Ivan J., age 22, laborer, Elsie L., age 20, James O., age 18, and Una C., age 14, all born in Oregon;
OBITUARY: 
J.D. Darby, 77, Waldo Hills pioneer, died at his home at Victor Point this morning after an illness of months. For nearly 50 years Darby lived on his Victor Point farm and in the early days he taught in a number of the district schools in the vicinity. He was a cousin of Dr. Wilson H. Darby of Salem.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Humphreys Darby, also a pioneer, four sons, and four daughters. Ivan and James O., sons, and two daughters, Ava and Mrs. Euna Doerfler, live near Victor Point. Another son, Clay Darby, lives at Roseburg, and Roy makes his home in Eastern Oregon. The remaining daughters, Elsie and Mrs. Ethel Hofstetter, are residents of Vancouver, Wash.
Darby was born in Jackson County, Missouri, in 1850 and in 1852 he crossed the plains with his father, Oliver Hazard Perry Darby, who lived at Stayton for a number of years.
Funeral services will be held at the Silverton mortuary Monday, May 23, at one o’clock. [From -Howard Mader’s Patton scrapbook, no source, no date].
