BIOGRAPHICAL: "George Cameron Gilham along with his brother-in-law, Matt Smith, the husband of Mary Ellen Parton, left Nebraska by covered wagon in 1899. They stopped at Pomeroy, Washington and bought a ½ section of land there. They left Pomeroy in 1903 and stopped again about 1½ miles east of Crabtree, Oregon. The family home there is still inhabited as of this date (1996). From there George Cameron Gilham and family moved to the Waldo Hills in 1905 onto part of the Theophilus Powell donation land claim, the home being located at the southwest corner of State Street and 119th. The home was remodeled in 1935-36 by James. W. Gilham and looks much as it does to this day. Daniel James Gilham was born there during the remodeling. James Gilham married Helena Christensen, a schoolteacher from Wisconsin, who was teaching grade school at The Dalles, Oregon, and had been staying with Martha Means, a married sister of James. In 1942 James and Helena bought 10 acres from George and Charles Cawrse. Lilly Gilham had remained living on the home place until her death in 1946. Also in 1946 the home place, 154 acres, was sold and a new home built on the 10 acres. Helena died December 2, 1947, James died October 12, 1987. Daniel Gilham is still living there".
