1880 OR CENSUS - John Kissling, age 2, b. Oregon, is enumerated as a boarder in the home of Christian Gobalet, age 49, occupation farmer and stone mason, b. Switzerland, and Anna M. Gobalet, age 46, b. Switzerland, along with their children Charles, age 16, Lina, age 14, and Janette, age 13, all born in Switzerland;
BIOGRAPHICAL (From Mt. Hope Cemetery, pg 172):
John Kissling, Jr., was born in 1877 or 1878. John, Jr. was the first-born son of Lena (Magdalena) Bass and John (Johannes Augustus) Kissling. After his mother died in 1879, John Jr. lived with several families while his father recovered from his loss.
John Jr. and his brother Jake became stepchildren of Maria Blauer and John Kissling when John remarried. John, Jr. died from scarlet fever in 1886, when he was 8 years old. He was survived by his brother Jake and by half-siblings William, Fred, and Maria Kissling.
