Exact burial location unknown. Died between 1848 and October of 1850.
BIOGRAPHICAL (from Book of Remebrance, pg 103):
The plot of ground was set apart for burial purposes by Mr. John S. Hunt, the writers grandfather. We presume necessity was the motive that prompted this act, for the first interment that took place therin, according to James T. Hunt, son of the donor, was a young man by the name of Joe Stitt, who had been hired by Mr. Hunt to make rails. His death was caused by a falling tree. Very soon after this, in Oct 1850, the beloved wife of Mr. Hunt was laid to rest on this little knoll. A married daughter, Mary Hunt Ritchie, soon followed and was placed beside her mother, and in due time Mr. Hunt was laid with the rest.
BIOGRAPHICAL (from Mt. Hope Cemetery, pg 1):
"Another version of this story comes from Judi West of Santa Fe, NM who has in her possession stories of the Kissling and Luthy families when they lived in the area. A logger, or someone by the name of Starr{?} was cutting trees for Mr. Hunt and had an attack of acute appendicitis. He was taken to the Hunt home [which later became the Luthy home] and a doctor was sent for. Because of the muddy roads the doctor did not arrive in time to save his life. Some person who had veterinary surgery experience attempted to save his life, but was unsuccessful. He was buried at the top of the cemetery just south of a large tree at the eastern fenceline. A wooden marker was set and when it deteriorated a metal pipe or bar was driven in that marked the site. A dark red moss rose was planted on the grave at some point and was there in the 1970's."
