OBITUARY: 
Ashland – Chester C. Oppen, 82, formerly of Salem, died Sunday in Ashland.
He was born in Newberg and moved to Salem as a child. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Willamette University and then a library degree from the University of Washington.
After World War II, he worked as an electrical engineer for the Federal Aviation Agency, retiring in 1971. After his retirement, he moved to Sun City, Ariz., before retiring to Ashland. His interests included nature and music.
On July 14, 1936, he and his wife, Genevieve, were married in Salem. Survivors include his wife; and brother, Arthur, of Salem.
Graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. today in Mount Hope Cemetery, Salem. Arrangements are by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen mortuary, Salem.
