OBITUARY:
W. STAYTON GIRL VICTIM of CRASH
June Lafky Dies, Result of Mishap; Boy of 14 Driving Car.
June Lafky, 21 year old daughter of Earnest Lafky, West Stayton, died in the Salem first aid car yesterday after the car she had permitted 14 year old Wilbur Holmes to drive turned over on the Aumsville cutoff eight miles southeast of Salem near the Witsel school.
Young Holmes, who lives at 1585 Saginaw street, first claimed the girl was driving the car, but later admitted he was the driver, State Police Sergeant Farley Mogan said. He told Mogan it was the second time in his life he had driven an automobile. Holmes received only a slight leg cut.
Holmes told Mogan the accident occurred when his foot slipped from the brake to the accelerator as he steered into loose gravel shoulders in attempting to pass a gasoline truck. The accident happened at 2:20 p.m.
The district attorney's office witheld comment until there is further investigation. Coroner L. E. Barrick said it is not yet determined whether there will be an inquest.
The body of Miss Lafky, whose death was a result of head injuries, was taken to the Clough-Barrick mortuary.
